David Poole, Lecturer in Fashion and Design Styling and Promotion, and Scott Ramsay Kyle, Lecturer in Fashion Textiles, are invited speakers at the ICA event Friday Salon: Creative vs. Commercial?, together with Noon editor Jasmine Raznahan.

About the event:

This Friday Salon provides a platform to rethink the relationship photographers have with their commercial and creative practices. The discussion aims to question the preconceived idea that commissioned works, whether commercial or editorial, are necessarily dissociated from personal practices.

Rather than seeing both aspects as unavoidably opposed, the talk wishes to open new perspectives and explores possibilities for making the two work together. It investigates how developing your own style and vision through personal explorations can help you being successful with your commissions. And conversely, how meeting precise requirements from a commissioner can make you push boundaries further and discover new techniques you can then bring into your personal work.

This event has been initiated by ICA Student Forum member Charlotte Juhen.
