Dr Loraine Leeson will speak about her art projects with schools 1992-2012 Several joint initiatives are underway between Dr Loraine Leeson in Dept. Fine Art and Dr Mona Sakr plus others in the Dept. Education including: ‘Concepts brought to Life’, a research project using photography as a means to help students examine theoretical concepts in education. Collaboration between undergraduates on the Art Practice and the Community modules and Education students investigating creative processes. Supervision of a practice-based PhD looking at how methods of social engagement can be used to support disaffected and underachieving pupils in mainstream schools. This lecture is the next step in the collaboration and is aimed at fostering dialogue between students in each department interested in the impact that the arts can make in statutory education.
