Loraine Leeson to address Labour Party fringe conference

On Tuesday 27th September 2016 Dr Loraine Leeson  will address the Labour Party fringe conference alongside Hilary Wainwright, Alan Tompkins and Bill Harpe, to look at how some of the radical arts strategies of the 1980s Greater London Council can be used to inform new policies for rebuilding and transforming Britain under a Labour government.

The Art of the State, 5 - 7pm Tuesday 27th September, Workshop 2

The Black-E
1 Great George Street, Liverpool L1 5EW

When we talk of culture we are talking about a source of enormous historical social power. Why did the GLC commitment to Popular Culture upset the rules of the unelected arts and sports quangos? How did the now abolished GLC get politics into arts policy?

Speakers:
Loraine Leeson - lecturer in fine art
Alan Tomkins - art director
Bill Harpe - director and co-founder of the Black-E
Hilary Wainwright - editor of Red Pepper
