Helen Carnac: Edge and Shore at Arnolfini Bristol
Wed 8 Jul - 12 Jul 2015, 11:00 to 18:00

Helen Carnac: Edge and Shore, exhibition and performance

Arnolfini, Bristol

Edge and Shore: Acts of Doing, the latest work of Visual artist Helen Carnac (Middlesex) and dance artist Laïla Diallo opens at Arnolfini Bristol on 8th July 2015.

Working within the gallery space the artists reveal an ever-evolving work that brings together objects, collected and found materials, images, film, writing and live making. A development of an extended research project where the artists considered process and making, the work explores where the borders of their two creative practices meet and permeate.

“Connections were made, in the moment, then overtaken by forces of gravity or the sheer random waywardness of the objects themselves. It was our own transience made evident, in acts of doing. And now, it’s gone. What lingers is an incentive to look and listen with fresh awareness.”  The Herald

The work offers an insight into the making process which is highlighted for two hours each day (12pm-2pm) when the artists will be in the gallery for a focused period of activity. The artists also venture out of the gallery, continuing to gather materials and ideas by looking out at the world together.

Visitors are invited into the gallery throughout the day to see the work progress and are encouraged to come back at regular intervals to observe the different states that a work might take in a process of live making.
