Graeme Evans: Launch Workshop of AHRC smART Cities & Waste Network

The launch of this new Research Network will take place at the Free University Amsterdam (UVA) with the first Research Workshop on Thursday 27/28 April.

Led by Dr Alex Plows, Bangor University, and Prof Graeme Evans, ADRI, Middlesex, presenters include artists, scientists, policy-makers, and the workshop and pop up art event will consist of interdisciplinary speakers, films, installations, and an interactive World Café discussion.

Presenters include:

Tilmann Meyer- Faje - a Dutch/German artist who works and lives in Amsterdam. His work focuses on the failure of industrial processes.

Dr Miruna Florea,  Department of the Built Environment, Eindhoven University of Technology on building/construction waste and recycling.

Irene Stengs on the concept of “sacred waste”, including ritual, media and the public domain and processes of commodification.

Irene Janze on “leftover landscapes.”

Albert van Winden, Program Manager Optimization Amsterdam Waste Chain, on initiatives and bottlenecks in Amsterdam waste policies.

Netty Gelijsteen - a Dutch artist who will feedback on the pop up art & public engagement event which creatively explores public views on waste in Amsterdam. Youtube link to Netty's artwork with 'wastedcity' can be found here.

Helena Koning on the feeling of the space around us which is visible and measurable, translating this feeling of space into a model by calculating the urban factor and mapping space.

Rii Dalitz will show ecological portraits of plants: photographs of winter vegetation being full of interesting and beautiful properties rather than as being dead material.

Liesbeth Touw will display her book: It Skips Everytime I Touch It (part of Paradise How), 2012.
