Prof Graeme Evans at Cedric Price: sufficiently incomplete

Prof Graeme Evans serving on panel at Bureau Europa, Netherlands Architecture Centre Maastricht (NAiM) at an exhibition talk on seminal British Architect, Cedric Price: Cedric Price – sufficiently incomplete on 10 February 2015. Graeme worked in one of Price’s very few built projects, the Inter-Action Centre, modelled on his Fun Palace concept for Joan Littlewood.

Co-curator of the exhibition Samantha Hardingham is currently the world’s leading scholar on the work of Cedric Price (1934-2003) and is co-curator of the current exhibition hosted by Bureau Europa, ‘CEDRIC PRICE: The Dynamics of Time’. In this talk she will introduce the work and the practice of this most exceptional British architect – an avant-garde of mid 20th century architectural history, whose highly principled capabilities as designer and draughtsman, thinker and philosopher, teacher and friend, artist and unparalleled raconteur have either fuelled the imaginations or sparked the consciences of all those who have encountered him or his projects.

Hardingham will trace Price’s early trajectory from his formative years growing up in the Midlands and education at Cambridge and the Architectural Association, to the production of a series of projects (including those specifically chosen for this exhibition) that embody his theory of an anticipatory architecture – one that is responsive to the well-being of human beings, and enables its users to change their mind.

Architect and architectural historian Dr. Tanja Herdt will act as the respondent for Hardingmham’s lecture.
