Ergin Çavuşoğlu speaks at (De)Coupling as Discourse on the Global South

Ergin Çavuşoğlu’ is one of the invited speakers at the symposium (De)Coupling as Discourse on the Global South, organized on September 22, 2016, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Exploring the autonomous rise of contemporary art in the Global South, this two-day symposium traces aesthetic and contextual change to identify an elastic discourse around global visual culture. Questioning geographically prescribed definitions of art, collecting, and exhibition making through lectures, short talks, and moderated discussions, the program aims to spark critical praxis through the cross-circulation of cultural ideas. This international gathering of intellectual activists focuses on cultural, ethnographic, geographic, and personal processes of becoming.

Uniting curatorial thinking from the three phases of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, the symposium takes place in conjunction with But A Storm Is Blowing From Paradise, on view through October 5, 2016, the third exhibition of the MAP Initiative.

Organized by Sara Raza (Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Middle East and North Africa) with advice from Pablo León de la Barra (Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America) and June Yap (Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, South and Southeast Asia).
