Symposium Photo Animation – The Irresistible Charm of Movement’ at Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, April 14, 2016.

Event of the 28th Dresden International Short Film Festival (12-17 April 2016)

Prof Dr Suzanne Buchan will give an invited lecture titled ‘Curating the City: Animated Psychogeographies' at the symposium, which is part of this year's special focus on photo animation at the Dresden International Short Film festival, that includes three special film programmes: Measurement and Notation; Animation and Assemblage; Supernatiral Illusion – Japanese Photo Animation.
The symposium and film series are curated by Gusztáv Hámos, Katja Pratschke and Thomas Tode. Other symposium participants include Janie Geiser, Jürgen Böttcher, Keitaro Oshima, Maki Satake, Menno de Nooijer, Paul de Nooijer and Suzanne Buchan.
The aim is to critically reflect on the changes in our world being shaped by new image-producing devices and our use of them, in addition to developing strategies together with the participants for dealing with and handling these animated photorealities in artistic and academic contexts.
